Celebrating 20 Years of Dedication: Maureen Ranger’s Inspiring Journey

This year, we are thrilled to celebrate a very special milestone: Maureen Ranger’s 20th Anniversary with the North Bay Horticultural Society.

Since joining in 2005, Maureen has been a cornerstone of our organization — a passionate gardener, a tireless volunteer, and above all, a generous friend to many within our community. Her journey began with a single meeting and quickly blossomed into two decades of meaningful contributions, countless friendships, and steadfast leadership.

Right from the start, Maureen jumped in with both feet. After attending her first meeting, she was invited to join the executive board — and she’s never looked back. Over the years, she has held nearly every role, often juggling more than one at a time. Her commitment and dedication have shaped not just the direction of our society, but the spirit of it as well.

Maureen’s impact goes far beyond the local level. She has attended numerous District 18 meetings, and more recently, became a board member, where she now manages supplies. Her organizational skills and eye for detail ensure that everything runs smoothly — often behind the scenes, but always with heart.

In addition to her executive work, Maureen is also a proud member of the Heritage Gardeners. She has served as team lead for the lilac bed, a garden feature lovingly installed by members 27 years ago. Thanks to Maureen’s leadership and care, this cherished space continues to bloom beautifully each season.

Maureen’s love for gardening runs deep — rooted in her childhood, growing up on a dairy farm west of Powassan with seven siblings. Her mother, a life member of the Powassan Horticultural Society, tended a large vegetable and flower garden and inspired a lifelong love of nature and learning. It’s clear that Maureen has followed in her parents’ footsteps, both of whom were deeply committed to community involvement and environmental stewardship.

Through her many years of service, Maureen has met countless wonderful people and gained a deeper appreciation for the volunteers and visionaries working to make our community and planet a better place.
